Pumpkins and a Porch

Good morning friends!

So to be completely honest with you this is one tour that actually had me a little bit nervous. As you probably know by now we bought our home two years ago as complete fixer-upper. We have spent a majority of these past two years fixing up the inside of our home, therefore, outside is still a work in progress. Don’t get me wrong it’s nothing out of a horror movie but like I mentioned earlier this week on social media, we truly are our own worst critics.

My dream is to one day paint outside of our house white. A chippy, white, brick home is something that makes my heart pitter patter! White brick is just so timeless and classic to me. One day it will happen, but for now I am working with what I’ve got. 😉 Baby steps!

The first thing that I knew had to be changed about our front entry where these concrete steps. They have definitely seen better days. I started the porch makeover by painting them with concrete paint and the difference was dramatic from the start. I love the brightness the white adds to the porch and the way it makes the navy door and brick pop in contrast. A little about our navy door, when we were putting up the stikwood in our entryway the other week I painted the interior door white and then on a whim painted the exterior door navy to match our back patio stencil. I love the way it ties the house in from all outdoor angles. I must admit, I am so much happier with this navy door over the black door that we had!

Wooden love sign on our front door is from my beautiful friends over at lollyjaneblog. They have such amazing stuff!

Autumn sign is hand lettered by my dear friend Aedriel and handmade by our wonderful friends over at HouseOfBelonging.

Some pieces that greatly inspired this makeover were this gorgeous storage bench, this amazing circular mirror and our entry way door mat from Joss & Main!

The landing of our porch is fairly large and I knew I wanted to utilize it. I was looking into hanging a porch swing but as soon as I saw this gorgeous gray bench I was instantly drawn to it. Not only was the design beautiful, I loved the wood tone, and best of all it provided hidden storage! Our entryway has a closet and a bench but I wouldn’t go as far as calling it a mudroom. So this bench was perfect for boots, umbrellas and all the sloppy stuff that goes along with our forever changing Chicagoland weather!

Speaking of our entryway, the window on our door is large so that means you can see straight into our house when the shades are up if you’re standing on the stairs. So I asked my husband to hang roman shades, a Craigslist find!!!, to give us privacy.  Additionally, I knew I wanted something to tie the space together and have found that this mirror was the perfect solution! I love the way it greets you by reflecting the trees in the background as you enter our home through the front door.

This deer welcome mat had me at “hello!” I love it so much and I also love how it is classic, inviting and can easily transition you from Autumn to Winter so there is no need to switch it between the seasons!

As far as the Fall decor goes, I knew I should keep it simple but I also wanted to reflect our family’s style. So by adding pops of pink with mums and green with ferns alongside some white pumpkins, a few gold spray painted dollar store pumpkins, and of course a couple of accent candles that we were able to capture great Falls colors without overdoing it!

Pretty and dainty boxwood wreath is from the sweetest shop, Ironstone Nest.

imageI won’t keep these particular items out year round but when we’re out hanging out on the porch some comfy pillows and a warm blanket are necessary! These mudcloth pillow covers by Loomgoods are insanely beautiful!! As I was shooting the space I moved them around a bit and to be honest I think they found their “mostly” forever home on our entryway bench! I say “mostly” because you know I’ll move them around for photos and such but for now I love the way they look there!

imageThat plaid and faux fur throw, the deer pillow along with the gorgeous cotton wreath hanging on our door is from our Painted Fox + Kindred Vintage collection! I adore these items so much that I had to add them to our curated collection! To find them just click the shoppe link on the website above!

Oh and that hanging wooden tray, I know you’ve been eyeing it ;), was hand made and sent to me by my lovely friend Whitney over at Whitneyleighmorris.  You have to see her darling tiny canal cottage!! You will be so smitten over it just like I am. 🙂

Well friends, that’s a wrap on our porch tour but the fun isn’t over yet! I have some exciting news for you! We are also hosting an Instagram contest to coincide with this week of front porch tours!
